Calorie readings differ widely

Found the new Garmin Connect version today and input about two weeks of stats.

Under Activities, Indoor Rowing, it shows I expended 2,183 calories which is not the number I input

When I go to: Under Connections, Bob Gerard, Indoor Rowing, it shows the correct number of calories which I input.

What gives???
  • Yeah, apparently it's showing KJ in the widget and Activities list, instead of Cal. Definitely a bug, but the numbers do make sense when you know this tidbit.

    Calories

I have the same problem with it showing the wrong calorie count. Someone says it is because it is in KJ. Not very useful. Is this not a simple fix to make it calories everywhere?

Personally I would prefer Garmin Connect to observe the stated preference in my account settings for using metric units of measurement, and that includes using kilojoules and not Calories for energy – but I do expect the information item to be labelled correctly.

About as simple as getting everyone – most notably including Amercians – to use SI units for all measurement.

Same issue here ... was pretty surprised to see 11K of calories burnt for not even 5 hours of mountain biking. ;)

Seems everytime Garmin makes changes to Garmin Connect, something breaks. Please Garmin, go and hire a decent quality assurance team. :)

Just let the user decide which he/she prefers. Problem solved.
Clearly this is a bug not a strategy. If it was a strategy you'd assume it would match on the different pages, but it doesn't.
I filed a bug report to Garmin, for what it's worth.....

....but I was told that there had been no other complaints, so my query was way down on the list.
