20 Week Marathon Training Plan

I was going to give the Training Plan feature of GC a shot. For previous 1/2 marathon 16 week training plans I just put what I was going to run on my Outlook calendar and would run what showed up that night.

I love the features of the 935 I have and thought I should give the Calendar/Training Plan a try.

What would be the best way to do this? All told, there are 100 individual workouts I would need to complete by Nov 11th.

Unfortunately the Garmin Connect training plan features don't really support custom training plans. There is a partial workaround but it is a bit tedious. If you add one of Garmin's training plans to your calendar and then add a new workout to the calendar during the training plan it will ask if you want to add it to the plan. You can also edit or delete the workouts that are added to the calendar by the plan. This means you'd have to manually create your workouts and then add them to the plan.

The other downside of this approach is that you are limited to 8, 12, or 16 week plans, so to get a 20 week you'd have to butt a 12 week up to an 8 week plan and just have them run into each other.

I would love it if we could do true custom training plans on Connect. I'm not sure why this has never been added but for now we are stuck with either using this workaround or using a different tool to manage plans.

So Training Plan is not an option

I can just add the workouts to my calendar each week or each month as time goes by, right?

Once you enroll in a training plan, it automatically goes to your calendar. From there you can send it to your device. If you have more than one device you choose which to send it to and it will transfer over on your next sync.

Yes, you can add workouts to the calendar and if you sync the calendar to your device they will show up there.
