So there was an Openstreetmap route that was Public, which I 'Save As'd so I could make some small modifications to it. I made my modifications and saved it. The lock icon in the top right is greyed out, but unlocked, as it says "This map contains Openstreetmap data and must remain public". Greta! That's what I *want*. But if I share the URL ( https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/15413074 ) with anyone they get the error "It looks like you don't have access privileges to view this course.".
I've since tried to redownload the original course I copied ( https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/13411695 ), and I can't any more. I now get the same "You don't have privileges" error as others do trying to view mine. And the person who created the original course says they're seeing the same thing, i.e. that Garmin Connect is claiming the map is already public and must remain so because it contains Openstreetmap data. This all happened after *they* made a few modifications to their original and re-saved it.
So how do I make these supposedly open and public maps *actually* public? Did Garmin mess something up on their end so that Openstreetmap maps are no longer public, but also still can't have their public/private status changed?
