Unable to turn elevation correction off

Does anyone know how I can turn off elevation correction when I add activities to Garmin Connect? This used to be an option on the screen but seems to have disappeared. I find that elevation correction will vastly over calculate the elevation when crossing bridges. It apparently looks at land elevation and assumes you are climbing up and down the river banks rather than crossing bridge.

  • What is your device and are you sure it isn't faulty? If the barometer is faulty GC will automatically turn on Elevation Corrections.

When they tried fixing https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?357366-Elev-Corrections-Enabled-When-They-Should-be-Disabled which they have failed to do for 1.5 year they failed it more than before. So now it is completely broke...

I suggest you to RMA your device, it is your unit id number that is not handled correctly.
Connect team apparently cant fix even if they should.

My device is the Fenix. It is showing me accurate elevation gains when I'm wearing it. It is only when I download to Garmin Connect that I get the bogus numbers. As I mentioned also, Garmin connect used to provide me the option of turning elevation correction off. I no longer see this.

If you read carefully the other threads you could also see that even if you previously disabled the height corrections the graphs was always height correction enabled even if it stated otherwise. Only the summary changed.

There are some other negative stuff with your unitid number: (I cannot verify that all of these issues still exist, but I guess...)
    - You will not see the LTHR menu in the garmin connect APP.
    - Datafields / apps are not updated automatically.
    - Extended fit file parsing is not done. (eg Stryd datafield in connect)
(last sync is shown as "unknown device, but that is not an issue more a symptom)

Garmin Connect team has got very detailed support information from me about the issue, which is related to unitid inside the filtfile. It is possible to only modify the 4 byte unitid + checksum in the fitfile to either make it work or fail.
I gave up and RMA'd my device and got a good unitid in the lottery...

Thanks. As my Fenix is over three years old though, I don't think returning it is an option. If Garmin would just bring back the ability to turn off elevation correction on their website, it seems this would correct the problem.
  • Did you ever figure it out?

Did you ever figure out how to turn off elevation correction? I noticed the same thing - Used to have the option to turn it on or off over on the right side of the screen, and now it's just gone...

No. The inability to turn off elevation correction or just have Garmin Connect recognize that it doesn't need to do elevation correction for my device has made it pretty useless for me. Being a hiker and climber, elevation gain is a critical component. I just did a hike which was pretty much straight up and straight down. It had a minimum elevation of 119 feet and a maximum elevation of 3,845 feet. My Fenix was showing me a total elevation gain of about 3,800 feet. When I loaded into Garmin Connect though, it shows a bogus elevation gain of 4,766.
