Create Cource from previous ride and modify - not transferring to Edge 800

Hi I have a ride I completed last year which I have transferred to courses (within Garmin Connect) so that I can follow again. That seems to have worked fine.
However I would like to modify the start position of that course and also up the average speed. I have thus :
• Edited the course to change start position
• Renamed the course as part of the edit
• Changed the average speed
• Saved the course
• All good so far
• I have then transferred the course to my Edge 800
• The new course appears in the list of courses
• However it still contains the original course start and average speed even though it has the new name
Any clues as to how I can modify and existing ride and transfer to my edge 800

same problem

I have exported the file from Garmin Connect and looked at it with other GPS applications (RIDEWITHGPS) and it still contains the original course data. However when I edit it on Garmin Connect it has the new course data. Very frustrating.
