Can we clone an activity from a previous day ?

Friday my Garmin had no battery so I did my workout without it.

However the workout was exactly the same than Wednesday and time was aprox the same.

Can I, somehow, clone the Wednesday activity but make it appear on Friday ? Would be useful for stats.

If not, what are the alternatives ? Manual entry ?

I do not see the idea of cheating. Are you doing that??? Weird!

I follow a HIIT training, some take 30minutes, some 5min just after wake up. Of course I could just use some generic stuff, but as I want to have a clear overview and having heartbeat tracked always, to combine with a training gives far more value added information.

To click/tab various things together is far too much time consuming. Therefore on the app as well as on the desktop browser there has far more to be done on UX. Search results is far too small even on desktop, therefore the results become an endless scrolling. Furthermore, of course not every title of a certain training suits it all, some are missing, and so on.

I would love to have a better UX there to use my Garmin with more ease and fun.

No idea what you mean. It is you who asked for activity cloning, not me. I am happy with my device recording my activities as they are.

but as I want to have a clear overview and having heartbeat tracked always,

If you clone yesterday's activity into today, you will have yesterday's HR in it, so I do not know how it can help you.

I believe you just need to learn how to work correctly with the device, and with the app. Have a look at some tutorials on YT, for example. Maybe I do not understand what you are trying to do, but if you just want to repeat the same HIIT workout each day, use one of existing workouts, or create your own one, and then you can reuse it every day, without any clicking around. No need for cloning anything. Just start the workout, and let the watch doing its work.

  • I have a Forerunner 35. It only records 5 basic activities, so many workouts have to be entered manually.

Cloning an activity, as requested in the initial post, won't help you with it. You need a newer watch, allowing you to add a custom workout, or a custom activity.

  • I cycle everyday to work. 20kms. I track my activities with a Garmin Edge. I use a dress clock. I don't want to take the Edge everyday to work, but I want to track how many kilometers I do. I don't care about speed or time (they are anyways more dependant on the time I wait at crossings than how I fast I am that morning).

See a point in my case? I don't mind doing a manual activity everyday, but I would save some time.

  • I had to send my watch to Garmin for repair. I would like to copy previous entries in Garmin Connect to my Activities until I receive the watch back from Garmin. That is a legitimate reason, in my opinion, to be able to 'easily' copy a previous workout or session and change the date and information. Adding it manually is cumbersome.

  • In that case export it, modify the ID and the date, and then import it. It is easier with the TCX format, since it is an XML file and relatively well human-readable and editable with a simple text editor, but you can also use the "Original" file format (FIT file), and edit it with a dedicated tool such as for example the FIT File Repair Tool.

  • Silly to respond to a 2 year old thread, but I will anyway because I find responses like several in this thread really annoying. The OP said his watch died and he wanted to replicate the workout he missed.  This is perfectly reasonable and I've been in the same situation.  And yet there's a bunch of people who feel that they need to chastise the guy for cheating or making up workouts or not using the device as it was intended.  Do you people not know how to read?  Or you just want to say what's on your mind even if it has nothing to do with the original question?  Simple question, and fortunately a couple people provided actual helpful responses.

    Sheesh.

  • I've been in the same situation.

If you zip and attach the affected fit file, we might be able to help you reconstruct it. It is possible using some 3rd-party tools such as Fit File Repair Tool, using a previous activity and altering the date/time then uploading it to Garmin Connect.

  • I totally agree with Ultradianguy - there is no need for some of the condescending answers to a reasonable question.

I am awaiting a replacement watch and have c.2 weeks worth of exercises I’d like to record, largely strength work (so HR data etc is not essential): the exercises are generally supersets / combinations that require a lot of manual entry as weight is increasing each set. The ability to copy and edit these (i.e. weight & reps) would save a lot of time. To create and upload a file is not a convenient solution as it would be entered on a phone at a convenient time.
