Forerunner 230 with external Heart rate monitor

I have the Forerunner 230 watch and just bought a heart rate monitor chest strap. I have synced the monitor to my watch, but I want to be able to see the heart rate data on the watch, is this possible?

I have not gone for a run yet wearing the monitor, will try that out later today. I would love to be able to see the heart rate data on the watch and my phone.

Any advise is appreciated.

Prep or start a timed activity (for any activity profile) on the FR230, and go to a data screen on which Heart Rate is a data field, if you want to see the HR readings from the connected ANT+ chest strap heart rate monitor.

If you want to see the HR readings on both the watch and on your handset, then ensure your handset supports ANT+, and run an app (such as Wahoo Fitness) that will display the data received. Hint: iPhones are not such handsets, and Garmin Connect Mobile (for Android and other operating systems) is not such an app.
