When I save an activity as a course, the distance changes

Hi everyone

When I save an activity as a course, the distance shown on Garmin connect changes significantly - the last one was 10.08km on my 810, and as an activity, but now it is saved as a course it is 13.23km.

Which one is correct?

And why such a difference?

It's pretty important as I'm measuring a route for a race to be sent to the ITRA.
