Wrong side of road when creating route in NZ (which uses left side or road)

Hi there

Can anyone tell me how to change the create route page so it defaults to using the left hand side of the road? When I try and create a route it navigates around roundabouts on the wrong side of the road. This also causes it to get confused when you go down motorways as it tries to get you to the wrong side of the road. It means that it's almost impossible to create the route I want without manually setting don't follow roads. I don't have this problem using map my ride or stravia but I want to load the route onto my Garmin bike computer.

See the garmin route on the left below and the stravia one on the right. I should be able to go straight down that road but the garmin connect one thinks I can't and goes all the way around

See below how it stays to the right of the roundabout where I would actually have to keep to the left and go around it.

Cheers
Dion
  • It' s the same in the UK

It's the same in the UK, and GC will send you the wrong way round a one-way system as well as roundabouts. I raised a ticket with Garmin for this a few weeks ago but it was just bounced around internally. Add this to the fact you can't import routes from a GPX or TCX (say from Strava) and the only way to get a route onto your device is by plugging it into a PC, so basically course creation is worse than useless anywhere that drives on the left (NZ, Aus, Japan, Malaysia, Ireland, UK etc).
  • TBH I've never looked at where the route takes me when I create one in Garmin Connect, but I'll look next time. As for needing a PC to get the course to your device that's not quite true. You can send then from Garmin Connect Mobile to your device.

I meant to get a route from another site like Strava, if you can't use GC because it's routing is incorrect. There are workarounds, like IQ apps on newer devices, or changing it to a course with GPSies, but you can't import them directly to Garmin Connect. Took me an hour to find the solution to it yesterday.
