Segments only saved for 1 year

I ride organized yearly century rides. These almost all have Segments associated with them. It looks like Segment data is only available in Garmin Connect going back 1 year. This makes it impossible to compare Segment data from past century rides to the just completed ride. Is there any way to see older segment data?
I'm posting this on May 2, 2017. Rides done earlier than May 2. 2016 all say no segments crossed, but an identical ride done on May 20, 2016 lists 4 segments crossed.

I first report an issue with older data disappearing to Garmin in September 2015! After a series of fruitless exchanges , I gave up as the whole Segments section broke and was unavailable for ages.

When Segments were supposed to be working again I contacted Garmin again (May 2016). After another series of exchanges, they finally acknowledge that data over 12months old was not visible and said they would let me know when it was fixed. I'm still waiting but not very hopeful!
