Fenix 5 LiveTrack won't stop and will not sync with Garmin Connect

Hi all,
I'm having issues with re connecting to Garmin Connect after having LiveTrack on and auto start enabled. Probably quicker that I just copy and paste parts of my email I sent to Garmin:

.....an issue I am having where LiveTrack was on however I went running without my phone, returned home after the run, saved the activity and my 1 day old Fenix 5 will now not sync with Garmin Connect.

I have tried several tips on Garmin support pages (where it appears to be a common problem) and unfortunately deleted the watch from Garmin Connect in hope that I could re add the device however now can not add the watch into Garmin Connect. I have hard reset the device going through the set up several times and when I attempt to pair it with my phone I enter the several digit long security number and then after doing so my watch comes up and says "LiveTrack started" and at the same time my phone in Garmin Connect always says "Pairing Failed". It seems like a software glitch for an endless loop.

I have attempted to upgrade to 2.96 BETA and I did successfully however all of what I said above still continues to happen. However following your directions on the below link I can not now get back to the official 2.90 firmware: http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=11663

I have tried to manually stop LiveTrack in the phone option in settings however it just says that it fails to stop it .... sort of stuck at the moment.
  • I've posted some work arounds that fix the issue for me at least, until there's a proper software fix (I'm pretty sure the issue is at the watch software end rather than GC). https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?373690-Livetrack-session-Stuck&p=978216#post978216

    Thanks Crispin,
Just posting what worked for me after trying everything I could find today. My issue was a little different in that I had actually removed the device from GC thinking when I paired it again it would fix it but to only find out you can't pair it when the watch is still in LiveTrack mode.

After several hours of diagnosing the issue, the only way I could fix it was connecting a second Garmin device to GC that then gave me the option that wasn't there before as the Fenix wouldn't sync, to end live track - as it only appears when there is a paired device in GC. I then reset the watch one more time and wala. Hope the issue is fixed in a new software release. Sounds like it's been an ongoing problem for some time when the phone-watch connection is broken during automatic live track. Just definitely DONT remove the device from GC during it or it will never pair again in an endless loop unless you have a second Garmin device around. 😐
