HELP: Notification Issues - Forerunner 235 and Vivoactive

I have had a vivoactive for about a year or so. Its been fine until about 2 months ago when the device started to not give notifications for various events. The watch would sporadically give notifications for texts/emails/phone calls/meetings etc.. I wrestled with this quite a bit. It seems to me that there was a software change that impacted the notifications.
I reset my vivoactive a few times to default, I even reset my phone to default. My phone is a galaxy s7 Edge.

I purchased a Forerunner 235 last week hoping that my notifications would function. I was wrong. the notifications behave similarly on the FR 235.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Are there any thoughts on what I can do to correct this issue?

I've grown so accustomed to the notification feature, I no longer check my phone, I relied solely on the watch. Now that i developed that habit, I continually miss notifications, calls etc... all the time.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Tom
  • When you say sporadically, do you mean your Garmin devices only receive X% (but significantly less than 100%) of the notifications that appear in your Android handset's Notification Centre, even though they are all of the types that sometimes get forwarded?
  • Yes, he/she does mean that.
I have the same issue with my 735 and Xperia Z5.
    It was OK until recently.

At first I thought it coincided with a garmin connect update, but I also did a Sony update recently so thinking it might be a compatibility issue with that.

It's quite unpredictable. You can get a text notification OK, then 1 min late another text will come in and you won't get it.

I have enabled the extra connection thing in the app but too soon to say if it has made a difference.

    Problems Continue

I just spoke with Jesse from the US Support team over the phone.

Jesse stated that the Garmin Connect Mobile app needs to run 100% of the time on your phone in the background in order for alerts to function accurately. We went through a few settings that checked out. My phone is compatible, i have the latest GCM app etc...
I don't believe this will fix my issue. I have not worried about the app being up in the background on my phone before. This occurred all of a sudden. I have the app up right now and have not received notifications.

    Fail.

If they can't fix this, i'll have to move to another device non garmin device. This is completely unacceptable.

    Toro Avenida

I can say that after some additional testing. Having the garmin up running on the phone does improve the reliability of the notifications coming over, however, it still acts up.

It think its a programattic issue within Garmin app on my phone. Something must have changed.
  • Same song, different verse

New user here--both at this forum and of a Garmin product. Just got a Vivoactive HR. It's not perfect, but I like it a lot.

I have the opposite problem described (and couldn't find a related thread AND don't have new topic permissions, so am posting here): no matter what I do, I can't get phone notifications to stop sending to my Vivoactive HR. I adjust everything on the watch itself and even turn of Mobile Notifications in the Garmin Connect app (iOS), but to no avail. On the watch I both turned off all individual notifications during and not during activity, as well as turned off Smart Notifications altogether. Nothing works.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The online help files (which gave me a nice trip down memory lane: Netscape, circa 1998) didn't help.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
  • Anyone got any apk s of the garmin connect app from a couple of releases back.
This is a new problem and I would like to rule out whether it is the app update that caused it or my android update.
    Thanks

    APK Download

in regards to the APK's - there are a few sites out there that have them all archived. I popped a link it but the forum would not let me for some reason. Google it and you will find a couple sites. APKpure is one of them. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see the different versions.

I loaded 3.13.1 to see if this fixed the issue. It did not. I may try to revert to 3.15 later tomorrow evening and post up my results.

Running Garmin connect in the background doesn't do anything at all.
