Garmin approach s2 won't stay charging

Hello everyone,

I just bought a new Garming Approach s2. I use it quite a bit, and every week I have to charge it maybe once or twice. The issue is when last night begore going to bed I plugged in the watch to my computer like as usuall. But the surprice was that this morning the watch wasn't charged at all. And I found it beeping every 5 seconds or so. I unplugged it and cleaned all the pins and everything to make sure it wasn't a connection problem. And I tried to charge it again this morning did the same. That is: I plug it in the computer, the displays shows Garmin, everything normal, but then there is a beep and the little battery status logo shows up and sudendly the watch shuts off. And start the process all over again, showing GARMIN, then the beep with the battery status logo and shuts off again. It can do this for ever.

Does anyone had the same problem? Or knows a way I can get in touch with GARMIN to proceed the reparation. Because like I said it's new. And hopefully the warranty still covers it.

Thank you everyone XOXO.
  • hi Sandra,

I see you posted this some time back and have no response from.

I also have an S2, I just got the same issue, this is what I see after connecting to the charger

    - Connect to charger, "GARMIN" Appears, Battery symbol appears, then goes blank, then repeat. S2 never takes on charge. I do not get the bleeps you describe but my volume setting was off.

I contacted Garmin Support, they suggested a Master Reset - https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=XoBt1EOO160CtVZPTfrFn8&searchType=noProduct&utm_source=faqSearch%2F
This is a typical response to these types of charging issues, its annoying that you have to keep resetting but it seem to work ok. You do not lose anything as far as I can see, though I do nto record scores. The course data is maintained.

    Choose the Master Reset options.

There are five steps. you have to be quick to get the "Clear user Data" message to appear, and be quick to to choose "Yes", but once reset charging starts to work ok.
This is the method you should use for the issue you described.

Connect to charge clip, wait for GARMIN to appear, then the empty battery symbol will appear, then goes blank, then repeats, let this occur a few times.
Then as "GARMIN" appears do the Master Reset process, as follows:-

    1. While connected to Power Clip, allow it to cycle through "GARMIN", Battery, Blank
    2. As "GARMIN" appears, press and hold down the Down arrow button (bottom right)
    3. Then also press Power button (top left), hold both together
    4. Then quickly release both buttons at same time together, if you get this right a "Clear user data?" message will appear with the word "No"
    5. Quickly use either Up or Down arrow button to choose "Yes", the click on OK button (bottom left), if this works the watch will be reset.

If reset correctly you may see the normal "battery low" message in a rectangle box, the message you see when you using the S2 and it is running low and then if the reset worked ok you see the "garmin.com/courses" message and the battery is charge mode, it wil no longer go blank.

If it does not work and you see "GARMIN" again, you need to keep re-trying the reset, once it works you see the battery symbol in charging mode and it does not go blank, leave it for 3 hours hours to fully charge.

I had to do the reset process several times to get the "Clear user data?" message to appear and to be able to choose and hit Yes in time to achieve the reset, took me a few goes for it to work, bit of a painful process, but got there.

    thanks, Mark
