Re: Garmin Connect not recognizing running PR

What can I do to get Garmin Connect to recognize my PR for running? My watch seems to recognize my PR but not Garmin Connect. The last time it did was March 14th and I've beaten every PR listed for 1km, 1mi, 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, & Farthest. Any ideas? Thanks
  • Have you uploaded any timed activities to Garmin Connect successfully since 14/3/2017? Are you able to see those personal record-breaking activity records in Garmin Connect now?

I've discovered that if you change the "Activity Type", it drops the PR. For example, my 920XT records all runs as "Running"...and the automtic PR is there and viewable. But as soon as I change it to "Street Running", it drops the PR. From the PR explanation popup:
"Connect only scans for a Personal Record the first time an activity is uploaded, so an edited activity won't be listed as a Personal Record."

It's annoying, but I'll be leaving my runs as "Running" for the Activity Type.

Yes I have uploaded plenty of activities since that date and I can see all of them in Garmin Connect. While not all of them are running I have 29 events that are uploaded and can view in Garmin Connect. Maybe I am misunderstanding how the PR system works? Should I try deleting the individual PR that Connect recognizes and see what happens?

Garmin Connect will not re-evaluate activity records that have already been uploaded, even if you remove the personal records currently listed in GC. You'll need to delete from GC the activity record(s) corresponding to the personal record(s) listed on the watch, then upload/import the FIT files for them into GC again. You can get the FIT files either directly off the watch's file system, or use the Export Original feature in GC (prior to deleting the activity record!)

This is exactly what I have been doing. I change it to street running because occasionally I do trail running or track running as well. This seems annoying....

Which Garmin wearable device model are you using?

Garmin Forerunner 920 XT. It seems that because I change my runs to "Street Running" that my runs do not count towards a PR. Silly....Thanks for the insight everyone!

Uh-huh. Your initial post made it sound like Garmin Connect never recognised your new personal records, upon uploading the activity records to it by syncing your watch and before you had a chance to edit the activity type. In reality, that is apparently not the case.

Anyway, I just tried manually setting an activity record, of which I've changed the activity type to ‘Street Running’, as my 10K personal record in Garmin Connect and it then appeared in my list of personal records for running just fine.
  • Hi all - as an FYI, after reading this post, I 'exported' to my desktop the FIT file of the event that wasn't showing up as a PR, which I had edited several times, then deleted it from Garmin Connect. I then imported the FIT file, which is now showing as a PR !! Success.......
