I have this problem. I am just getting started and have not knowingly sent a single request. I have found a family member who I want to connect with and cannot due to this '5 pending requests' error. I need a way to fix this or I will never be able to connect with anyone. Seems very wrong or poor quality software. Please tell me I'm missing something simple.

It sounds to me as if the relative (and not you) has the five pending requests, that he never accepted or rejected. He will need to do it by going to his message box in Garmin Connect.
