Problems with Goals ...

Hi there,

Seems there is a problem with the goal tracking on the system at the moment. After several months off the bike, just got back in the saddle this week and set myself a couple of short term goals to get back into the swing of things. Correctly set up on the system, displaying as expected, however as I have completed activities (which have synchronised correctly and display exactly as they should in Connect) the mileage from these have not been applied against the goals.

Now, I have had to fudge start dates and things to make them fit my desired deadlines (given we don't have the flexibility to enter start and end dates, only start dates and durations), and this meant some activities had been completed before I added the goals but after the start date I had given to them, so I could understand those not necessarily being counted, but it is also not counting new activities either. I have a new goal about to start today (1 April) so can see if it makes a difference that I set up the goal before it was due to start rather than backdating the start so I could hit a required end date.

However, if that is how it has to work, then Garmin need to prevent the backdating of goal start dates AND allow us to enter specific end dates rather than simply setting a duration. If not, it renders it impossible for me to now set myself a goal for mileage in the remainder of calendar year 2017 even though it is only April and, frankly, that's dumb!

The goal system in GC is much more flexible than Strava, but at least Strava's standard target includes mileage in the current calendar year. However, the ability to create multiple, overlapping goals is one of the things that brings me back to Connect over and over.

I just created a distance-based goal with a backdated start date as a test, and I can see the distances of all the relevant activities since then that I've already completed and uploaded count towards the goal.

but it is also not counting new activities either.
Did you set the goal(s) up for the correct activity type?

    Ding ding!

Went back to look at the goals and realised that I never actually update my synchronised rides to a specific type of cycling, but had set the goals to "Road Cycling" rather than just "Cycling".

Updated the relevant activities to "Road Cycling" and all show as expected. Have amended things accordingly, so hopefully all should now be well.

    Thank you for the prompt!

I know it's an old thread, but this actually helped me a lot !
I went through the web application dashboard and edited the goal activity type to generic ones like "running", and "walking". Previously I had something specific, like "Casual walking" and "Outdoor running". As soon as I edited to generic "running", I could see goal progress.

    Cheers !
