New Forerunner 610. Still compatable?

Hello all,
I'm completely new to Garmin, and just jumped at the chance to get a new Forerunner 610 at a great price from Amazon UK.
Now I've tried to join Garmin Connect on the mobile app, I see why it was so cheap - obviously Garmin have gone onto the 620 and removed the 610 from the list of devices I can select from when I register!
Shall I just select the 620 and hope it works?
Any advice?

At this moment I'm still charging the watch up for the first time, so I'm still at the very beginning of the process. It would be nice to be able to take it a bit further and actually use Garmin Connect!

If I am not mistaken the 610 does not have bluetooth. It will only communicate with connect via an ANT+ module plugged into a computer.

You can set it up on the computer after data is transferred to the computer via the ANT+ plugin it can be view on the mobile device.

I have an Edge 500 which does not have any bluetooth and a VAHR which does. However, neither my tablet or phone has the level of BT needed to speak to the VAHR.

But after loading the data from either via the computer and web I can see the data on the tablet and phone.

This is what you need to do:

1. Install Garmin Express on your PC or MAC.
2. Plug the ANT+ stick into your computer.
3. Add the device in Garmin Express.

Hopefuly the above procedure will register your FR610 with Garmin Connect. Now you can also run the mobile app, and you will see your device registered there (along with all the fitness data downloaded from the watch), but - as has been said above - you cannot use the mobile app to sync your watch with Garmin Connect. In the case of FR610 the only way to do this is Garmin Express.

Guys, thank you very much for your advice, it's very much appreciated.
My wife's pic is usually off limits to me as it's full of sensitive work stuff and kept 'clean' of other software or whatever. I do have a Samsung tablet I was hoping to use, and an OTG cable to link the ANT+ dongle.
Will Garmin Express work on a tablet?

Will Garmin Express work on a tablet?

Not unless it's a Windows Surface Pro or some other tablet that runs a regular version of the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Garmin Express runs only on OS‑X and Microsoft Windows.
Garmin Connect Mobile runs only on iOS, Windows‑10 Mobile and Android.
