Why Garmin Connect shown farthest is 21.71km but no half marathon personal record?

Hi, can somebody please tell me Why Garmin Connect shown farthest is 21.71km but no half marathon personal record?
:p
  • I'm annoyed by that as well. I once did a 13.5 mile run and it was not recognized as a half marathon.
  • I've discovered that you have to stop recording as near to the target distance as possible. Meaning, if you want to record a PR for a half, better stop your Garmin at 13.1 miles, maybe 13.2, because it won't extrapolate (right word?) a shorter distance out of a longer one.

That is the case only if you're relying on Garmin Connect to detect new personal records upon upload of activity data files from your Garmin device; and, in that case, only one personal record out of 1K, 1mi, 5K, 10K, etc. – whichever closely matches the total distance for the activity – can arise from a single activity.

For GPS watches in the Forerunner and fēnix ranges – and I believe the vívoactive‑HR as well – the watch itself will monitor activities for new personal records as they are being completed and saved on the device, and then tell Garmin Connect of such. It is then possible to achieve and register multiple personal records, e.g. 1mi and 5K, from the same activity.

If you look at the screenshot andyhome has provided, chances are that his 1mi and 5K personal records are from the same activity (noting the same activity name and date for both, although of course it's possible to do two separate runs on the same day and give them the same activity name). That would mean the Garmin wearable device he's using is capable of detecting personal records upon saving the activity data on the device, before it is ever uploaded to Garmin Connect.

I note that you have manually edited the name of the activity corresponding to your Farthest personal record. Perhaps you've inadvertently triggered a defect that ‘removes’ a personal record upon editing the associated activity in Garmin Connect, that does not appear to be affecting every user. However, if the activity you named “My first half marathon:o” was supposed to be both your Farthest and your Half Marathon personal records, then I don't know why it would be there for one and not the other. I can also see that you have edited the name of the activity in which you achieved your 1K record, so we know that editing the activity does not remove the personal record for you, at least not consistently.
  • Thank you all.

I already send this to GARMIN SUPPORT for help.
    Waiting.....
  • Here is GARMIN response-but I m not quit understand.

    Hello Andy,

This particular activity exceeded the amount of meters that is the maximum cutoff for a running activity to qualify for a personal record. We apologize for any inconvenience.

    Thank you for choosing Garmin,

  • It's been already explained in one of the answers above.

In order to detect a new record the activity's distance must match more closely the record's distance, i.e. half-marathon in your case. If your activity is too short or too long, it won't qualify as a personal record. Your particular activity was a little too long, it appears.
  • Really?

Really? so where can I find the limit for 10km 15k,10miles, half marathon? and what are the tolerance? minus/plus 100m?200m?..... Do I need set up my goal before I running?

    thanks.

Also, why for my 1k,1mile,5k,10k personal records are auto update no mater how far I run?
    That's really funny.
  • I don't know the exact tolerance, but it's quite slim.

What device are you using? Some latest more advanced devices can detect personal records "on the go", whereas older or cheaper devices rely on Garmin Connect detecing records. In the latter case the activity's distance must match closely the record's distance.

Also have a look at this thread:

There was/is some bug in Garmin Connect which causes records to be lost when editing some elements of the activity.

    Hi,
    Thanks for reply.
I double checked "help" regarding personal record, (the ? on the right upper corner),
It clear shown for half marathon running distance 13.2miles=22km can be record as a PR, why my distance 21.7km not?

Already send this question to Garmin, maybe tomorrow I will get response.
