Can the heart rate alert be turn off for some runs?
Sometimes I need to monitor my HR during the run other times, like during speed intervals, I don't need the alert. Can it be turned on and off or is it always on?
It can be turned on and off as needed, but not very easily.
Check by pressing the Runner button, scroll down to Activity settings, then scroll down to Alerts.
I just checked on mine and the only way to turn it off is to remove the alert, which means that to turn it on and off you would have to create the alert every time you wanted it.
Your best option might be to remove the alert and create a workout which has the limits you want and do that when you want. Workout steps can be set for time, duration or lap button press. You set them up in Garmin Connect and then transfer to your device. They are then accessible under the Activity profile by scrolling down to My Workouts.
You can manually remove heart rate alerts from a given activity profile on the FR230/235, and then set up new alerts when you want them. There is no on-off toggle for heart rate alerts you have previously set up.
You may want to look into setting up custom workouts as an alternative approach.
Another option would be to repurpose either the Run profile or the Run Indoor profile, so that both of those would have the same settings (including for GPS) except for alerts. (You could also do it with the Other activity profile, but then cadence and steps would not be captured for those timed runs.)
