Split Activities: Am I Doing it All Wrong?

Good morning everyone, I'm sorry if this is a duplicate topic, but I've searched the forum and cannot find an answer to my situation.

I began using Garmin Connect in connection with my Vivosmart HR+ about 2 months ago (and LOVE it), however I'm still trying to figure out the best way to log my workouts. Every day, I complete a lunch time workout session. Due to time restriction, I often split workout session into two, high impact disciplines. The first part is usually treadmill and the second is either high resistance elliptical, weights or an agility ladder program. I have no need for the speed/cadence data for the running portion as I am not training for an event.

Should I be breaking these workouts into two separate activities, or logging them as one continuous one?

Also, if anyone has and tips or tricks using either my Vivosmart or Connect that might not be total common sense, that would be awesome. I'm still fumbling around with the goals, calendar, workouts and the non-base functions of the website.

THANKS in advance!
  • Yes I often do similar when I go to the gym - assuming your watch has a multisport seleciton - just start/stop/save the first 'Run Indoor' activity....then right away start a new activity 'Other'(?)from the watch's menu. I typically log gym workouts and ellip as "Other" and then change it later to "Strength Training" or "Cardio". As a standard I just do high resistance ellip as a warmup...then Lift. I just enter the distance into the strength training later.

Otherwise if one big activity....its a mess....you can use a site like FitFileTools.com to crop/split the file. Then re-import into Garmin.
