Stairs accuracy

I had a FitBit HR but since I'm a biker and already have a Garmin Edge 820 I sold it and bought a Garmin HR. The FitBit did an awesome job measuring my stair climbing. We have 2 sets of stairs in our house and I'm up and down them 6-7 times a night. The Garmin will typically only say I've climbed 1 set of stairs. I'm using the new 4.0 software. Anybody else having this problem?

I suspect the Garmin will never be as good at climbing stairs, but do not have any personal experience. The Fitbit uses an accelerometer to judge steps and stairs, I am fairly confident the Garmin 820 does not.
