Using both Garmin Edge 25 and VivoActive HR for activities?

I have both a Garmin Edge 25 and VivoActive HR. I have read that Garmin will consolidate data using Trueup technology but cant find much information about it. Sometimes I use both device at the same time, the edge 25 is much more accurate for elevation and distances while biking and I like being able to easily see the speed and distance while it is attached to the handlebars. The Vivoactive reports elevation numbers way over the actual elevation and elevation correction is off by default and wont let me change it but the vivoactive has the heart rate monitor. If I try to start an activity on both I get two separate activities in Connect. Is there a way to merge the data into one activity? Is there a way to do this automatically?
  • My experience using a Fenix 3 & Edge 820 - the activities from both appear in GarminConnect.

TrueUp appears to be aimed at the activity (step) tracking side of the house & not 'real' activities.
  • For me, I'll use the Edge to record the ride, and just have my watch in it's normal more, or maybe use it to broadcast HR to the Edge. No duplicate activities, and you still get the 24/7 info from the watch (steps, etc). (they are both on the same GC account)

How do you get the heart rate from the watch to the edge? Does it setup like a speed/cadence sensor?

I often use a vivoactive-hr, which has a built in optical HRM, and it's got an option to broadcast the HR data. I have it paired like a HRM band with the Edge, so the recording on the Edge includes HR data.
  • I realize an old thread, but i've having a few issues getting the Edge 25 to pair with the HR. In the watch sensors menu, i've set it to broadcast heartrate during an activity. I downloaded a heartrate broadcast only app/activity. When I start the app on the watch, and then in the Edge 25 sensor pairing menu try and pair a new sensor (the watch), I got nothing. I tried broadcasting the heartrate setting in the watch menu too, with the same result.

The Edge pairs with the cadence sensor ok, but I'm missing something somewhere. Should it just be a case of holding the Edge 25 near my watch as I try and pair it from the Edge 25 menu, and with the watch broadcasting the heartrate?
