Dashboard Now Asking For Name?

What's up with this? Today, 14 February, 2017, when I try to go to the dashboard at https://connect.garmin.com/modern/ , I see a message as follows:

To simplify Garmin Connect profiles, we’re no longer using a display name and will use your name instead. Your name will be seen in your profile, activities, leaderboards and newsfeed, and it’s also how people can find you on Garmin Connect.

This seems to contradict what's listed on the (US) Privacy Policy at https://connect.garmin.com/en-US/privacy where it says:

You do not need to provide your full name, but you may if you wish.

So are full names required now? Is there a mechanism for deleting accounts instead?

You can use any name you wish there, it doesn't have to be your real name.

I just entered my username and it was quite happy :) but it is rather irritating and I am sure that many people will feel obliged to enter their name
