Wich is the right way to track intervals?

Hi everybody.
Today trainning was a simple 8x200m with 1min static recover ... what i call REST. (RECOVER should be run at a lower pace)

Well, i programmed the intervals right ther on my FR235.
And i know, that this was going to happend, but i want to share it , and try to understand how the rest of the people tracks this kind of intervals.

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1572598473

As you can see, the Avg Pace was totally ruined, because the activity stats are distorted regarding the avg pace during rest periods (i swear i was stand in the same holly point).

I know people that doesn't track the rest periods to get the accurated stats, i don't know how they meassure the stop time, ..but come on...i you have the options to program rest and recovery periods, they should be different things..

What do you think? How do you solve this issues?

Thanks!
  • You ought to distinguish between the idea of an activity (which you use the Garmin wearable device to track) and a session (which you what you set out to do).

I don't know about all Garmin wearable device models, but at least with Forerunner watches, they're designed to track and/or administer activities. If you see the warm-up and cool-down components as part of the activity, then by all means include them, and the firmware's Intervals mode can easily accommodate that. On the other hand, if you don't see the warm-up and cool-down components as part of the activity, then don't use the Forerunner to track them! You can use the watch to inform you to time and/or distance in the warm-up component, using a separate activity that you can discard or delete independently of the ‘meat’ of the session between warm-up and cool-down.

You can create a custom workout in Garmin Connect online and then send it to your FR235 on which to execute it, and that will automatically save your warm-up and cool-down steps as separate splits (or ‘laps’). Of course, you could also manually mark them off as separate splits using the Lap button, if you're using the firmware's built-in Intervals mode. You'll be able to see the stats for each individual split in Garmin Connect, but you can't force Garmin Connect to ignore any part of the activity for the purposes of determining overall stats for the activity.

I understand what you want is for the FR235 to administer a session but only record the part you consider an activity, but that's not going to happen. Either administer the session yourself as something bigger than the activity you want the watch to record, or let the watch treat the session as an activity and record it in full (and determine summary stats accordingly).
