Can't import .fit from .gpx

I saved a .gpx file of a course onto my Garmin Edge Touring and then tried to import the .fit file into Garmin Connect. I get an unspecified error telling me to contact support but there are no contact support options on Garmin Connect that I can see (other than device).

Please help ? All I am trying to do is look at a course I have created.

Why not just import the .gpx file directly into Garmin Connect here.

Or have I misunderstood what you are trying to do.
