Creating a course

Hi I am trying to upload a GPX file to Garmin Connect so that I can create some courses. I have tried using files from a number of different sources. I click on the import data button and then browse for file (also tried dragging) click the required file and then click the upload button. Then the progress bar goes across and once it finishes red writing comes up saying this file has already been uploaded. Now this happened the first time I uploaded it so it cant have already been uploaded. I have looked all over Connect and cannot find the file (just in case it was uploaded).

Any help greatly appreciated.
  • It is not possible to import a Course (okay, there are a million caveats but believe me, it is not worth your time). You have to import a file that will become an Activity and then convert the Activity to a Course in GC.

You should be able to find an Activity that corresponds with the file you were importing. The last time I did that I found it with a date of 4 years ago.

I recommend that you either create you Course in GC directly or use one of the many alternatives to put a Course on your device.
  • Furthermore, there's a plethora of posts about this throughout the forum. Spend a little time searching and looking through thread titles and you'll find the necessary steps and information.

Unless you are looking specifically for turn-by-turn courses, you can actually do most of what you want within Garmin Connect.

    Ah Ok thanks,

Think I read an article where you upload it directly to the new file folder on the device.

That's crazy that you cant just upload the GPX file in to the map section as you can on Strava and then just add it to courses/routes.
