Duplicate entries in MFP from Garmin Connect when using Hike App on Forerunner 235

Hi
I am not sure if I have just got too many things talking to one another but maybe someone can help.
I have a Forerunner 235 (and a Vivofit but I don't think that is the cause) linked to Garmin Connect on my iPhone. I also have Strava on the phone.
Garmin Connect feeds into MyFitnessPal, as does Strava.
When I record a walk using the Hike IQ Connect App it feeds into Strava which then feeds into MFP. However the watch also seems to 'record' the walk as an activity without me asking it to and this ends up in MFP as well - with a 1 min shorter duration but a higher calories burned count.

Every day I have to delete the generic walk entry to get rid of double counting.

Any idea what I should turn off/detach?

Thanks in advance
  • Hike simply records a .fit with the sport being hiking, and that one file gets uploaded to Garmin connect by way of GCM or Garmin Express.

What the Garmin end does with that has nothing to do with Hike, as it's now out of the picture. I'm suspecting that what may be happening, is that between Strava and MPF, both may be getting the data from Garmin, and one doesn't understand a sport of "Hiking" and changes it to a walk, and passes it on to the other.

You should only see the hike in Garmin Connect, unless for some reason, MFP or Strava is passing the bogus walk back to Garmin. Looks to me you might have to change something with how info is passed to/from Strava and MFP, or between the two. Or find out which of the two doesn't handle a sport of Hiking correctly.

Update: When you are using Hike, are you recording as a "Hike" or a "Walk"? You can change it before you start recording, and it's shown on the top line, on the right. I assumed you were recording as a "hike", but that may not be the case. If you are recording a "walk", you may not be seeing anything odd, as you are recording a walk if you're using Hike in that mode, so activity wise, everything is working with the app as it should..

Also, here is the support thread for Hike, and maybe someone there that uses Strava with MFP might have more info for you.
