FIT file Personal Record question

So I'm wondering how Garmin computes a Personal Record in a given run. For example, if I run 5 miles, is a record only established for a time in whole number miles? ie.. mile 2.0 through mile 3.0. Or can it detect any mile record in the run? ie.. mile 3.72 through mile 4.72. I also would like to know if there is a way to view these computations from each activity. For example, if I don't actually set a new PR in a given activity and thus no information will be displayed on Garmin Connect , is there a way to view the information to see how close I came? Are these values for all qualifying distances; 1K, 1 mile, 5K, 10K etc, listed somewhere in each fit file? I've tried several FIT viewers from a Google search, but none of them seemed to give the information from above.

Thanks for your help,
Kirk

In Personal records select ? for info

In Customise list select farthest. It will display the distance x.00 km

Another option in your activity list

Show filters Distance x.0 - y.0 kilometers select search , it will display between x.0 and y.o kilometres

You can also filter on time etc

In addition you can select your particular distances as favourites. select favourites and it filter your favourites.

!!! Don’t put any text in your keyword as this is broken.

This is an extract out of a VSHR fit file which will show the summary information send to garmin connect.

    session
    timestamp 832160811 s start_time 832159086 total_elapsed_time 1723.763 s total_timer_time 1723.763 s total_distance 2226.91 m

    total_calories 192 kcal avg_speed 1.292 m/s first_lap_index 0 num_laps 3

    sport 1 sub_sport 0 avg_heart_rate 114 ppm max_heart_rate 130 ppm

Which viewer did you use any for OSX?
  • So I'm wondering how Garmin computes a Personal Record in a given run.
It depends on the device model used to record and upload the activity record.

Or can it detect any mile record in the run?
On device models that are capable of detecting new personal records without support from Garmin Connect (e.g. the Forerunner‑235, of which I have one), yes.

I also would like to know if there is a way to view these computations from each activity.
Not with any capability that Garmin provides, except perhaps by ‘eyeballing’ the pace chart for a run and making your own determination.
