Workout Plans - Whats the difference between Speed and Pace?

Afternoon All

I use the Workout creator a lot for my Marathon training.

I try and work to set pace's throughout my workouts so the work out creator has been great for them.

If I am running a tempo run I have I have been using pace which is Pace per mile. Though I find it hard to have a steady run that way, I am either speeding up or slowing down to get the pace per mile display on my watch correct.
Which during a marathon is like running mini intervals.

I was looking for a way that the watch would allow me to set a alert for telling me if my current pace is to fast or too slow during my run.

In the work out creator it has the option to select 'Speed' instead of pace. If I used that setting would that cover my current pace?

My watch does have virtual pacer etc. Though my work outs include stuff like a 1 mile warm up then right into the session then a cool down after it. I was hoping to find a way to do this in a workout and have the alart kick in for current pace/speed rather than per lap pace.

Hope that makes sense.

In a nut shell. Is the 'Speed' option in the workout creator an alert for Current Pace or another way to set Lap Pace?

Thanks
Murray

You can do so by not using a custom workout, but simply setting a range alert in the activity profile.

No. Speed is just a different way of expressing pace. A pace of 5 minutes per kilometre is the same as a speed of 12 kilometres per hour.

So use the Interval Workout feature on your FR920XT instead of a custom workout created in Garmin Connect online.

    No.

Late to the party here, but I was wondering about the same for hike pacing. I think this can be done by auto-lap feature, where you on your part get a notification report ever 10min (or your preferred interval) about your lap pace. For hiking I have a report every 30min as to adjust speed (actually not walking too fast). But there are also data field for lap pace, wonder if that will adjust better for your current lap pace? Also last lap pace will let you know how you did for the previous lap.
