Avoid cycle paths when creating course

I never use Garmin Connect to create my courses because of the above annoyance. As a road cyclist, I'm not interested in riding gravel paths, canal paths, towpaths, cycle tracks or other similar surfaces - yet Garmin Connect doesn't provide me with a way to route that specifically avoids them. In fact, when planning a route, I notice that it often insists that you use these paths where they exist, despite this usually involving a significant detour. Every single other mapping app has a feature similar to RideWithGps' 'driving' mode - if Garmin implemented this I'd have no reason to go elsewhere to plan out my routes.

Why isn't this present?
  • Same "wish" here.
I use GC to plan my routes but I would find really useful a feature to "blacklist" some road segments within/around the city that would never be used when planning my routes.
  • Sounds like a good idea. When using plotaroute.com there is the option to choose autoplot by road, which will do what you want. You might want to submit to Garmin as a feature request.
  • Problem over here in Aus and NZ is that some relatively major roads are still dirt/gravel. It's all well and good if you know where they are, but it's no fun if you don't and the route gets directed down one or several. In the meantime, since I can't simply use point a to point b to plot routes, I manually route across junctions where I know the dirt roads are and avoid them that way/ It's not too much of a pain now as I've got a better handle on where those roads are.

So yes, a great idea to blacklist certain roads
