Can't Share Garmin Connect 'Workouts' to friends or groups.

I write turbo training workouts for our cycle club into the 'Workouts' section of my Garmin Connect account. At the moment, the only way I know of sharing them is to send out a copy of the .fit file from the 'workouts' folder on my Garmin 1000, but would LOVE to be able to share them within our Garmin Connect Members group or to my 'connections', in the same way that you can courses. 'Connections' could then send it to their device.
Perhaps if anyone else thinks this would be a valuable addition to Garmin Connect, they might also suggest this to Garmin via the ideas page ;) http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/
If anyone knows of a better way of sharing that is currently available, PLEASE let me know :D
Garmin UK support told me that I just had to send out a web link to the workout page in Garmin Connect (to any on my 'connections') but that doesn't work, giving an error saying that 'it looks as though you don't have access privileges to view this file'. Sadly, the UK help desk do seem rather inexperienced when it comes to providing help on such things :( .
  • does that make sense?

Not sure. Do you want that the workout includes some additional screen to help you keep the HR in certain range, and then sending your screen setup with the workout to other users?

Well, theoretically it is possible, because it is what happens with the workouts from Garmin Coach Plans - they indeed often include additional screens for example for keeping your pace or the HR within a predefined range, but I do not know about any way how to add such screens to a workout when creating one. If you know, then there is a good chance it will transfer with the workout FIT file too.

  • If this basic feature is not added in the very near future I will never own another Garmin device. The provided strength training programs are an absolute joke. I make my own and want to share them. I paid enough for my device for the simple feature. Been incredibly disappointed in Garmin.

  • Been incredibly disappointed in Garmin devices for my training. The available strength based workouts are laughable and on top of that I can't share the ones I make through there clunky workout creater interface. Further, far more exercises need to be added to the available list or how's this for an idea let me add my own.

If you really want to share them now, you can, if you follow the instructions in this post. If you want it integrated directly into Garmin Connect, suggest it to Garmin at https://www.garmin.com/forms/ideas/. Threatening that you will stop using Garmin products won't make anyone cry - we are just users like you, and nobody from Garmin will see your post at all anyway.

  • Fair enough, but at least anyone looking to get a Garmin product for creating workouts knows the limitations. Garmin makes devices for runners, swimmers and cyclist everything else is a after thought.

  • devices for runners, swimmers and cyclist everything else is a after though

Sharing of workouts for runners, swimmers and cyclist is possible exactly in the same way as for the strength exercises - only by sharing directly the FIT files.

  • I really hope Garmin introduce this - a sales rep told me it's unlikely as they see it detracting from Garmin Coach.

However, that's really short sighted if so.

There are many many many coaches out there that people use and they won't be dropping them for garmin coach - I am one. I'll set my own sessions and if I were able to share them easily just with a link (after all pretty identical method to sharing routes) then it would be hugely helpful to the other garmin users in my club and would also be a very attractive feature to those who don't have garmin watches - yet. They would quite possibly sell more watches - ok, it might be marginal but it would be a good attractive product feature.

  • Hi all – I’m working on a website that will allow people to share Garmin workouts with friends or groups.

I’m still in the early stages of development and I’m looking for some Garmin user feedback.

You can read more about the project + ask for features by filling in this questionnaire:

    Thanks!

  • Hi - I realise that this is an old thread but in case there is still interest in the topic I have created a website and corresponding Garmin Connect IQ APP that allows you to create and share workouts (running and cycling) with others. The website is called wrshare.co.uk and you can find the Connect IQ APP in the Garmin Connect IQ Store (Search for WRShare). You can find more details on the web site (see the help pages).
