Hi all
just wondered if anyone else finds that the BMR Garmin assigns (you don't seem to be able to set it) is too high to actually be a BMR?
If you hover over the BMR link on the calories widget, it gives a description of BMR that matches at least my understanding - your calorie burn if you basically laid in bed all day and did nothing - in reality everyone must use a bit more than this just as a function of getting out of bed, walking around the house etc.
However, under Reports -> Total Calories, the BMR section of the graph which gives you a specific figure - each day at least in my case is quite considerably more than any other BMR calculator I can find would estimate a true "BMR" to be.
It's actually a much more realistic figure (uncannily so - too much to be a coincidence i think) for what I would expect my 'base' calorie expenditure including basic day to day life - i.e. BMR with an activity (in my case pretty sedentary) factor taken into account - on this basis, it is pretty close to what most of the other calculators seem to come up with
Are others similar i.e. is this just a poor and slightly misleading use of the BMR term?
