Fenix 3 Saphire Non wrist HR

Hi Just bought the Sapphire edition with chest strap Non wrist hr (metal band and silicone band)

What I can't work out and want to do is track my HR for the whole day by wearing the strap and reading HR on the watch and recording data without starting a program. ( mostly sitting behind a computer the whole day)

I know you can just scroll down on Fenix WRIST Hr and immediately see the HR.

I downloaded several widgets for HR and they say they are installed but I can't access them and view HR?

I don't know what I'm doing wrong can't be this complicated just want to be able like the polar hr monitors of old see a hr whatever I'm doing.

Help any ideas?

Regards Kevin
  • Fenix 3 is not capable of tracking all day HR. It might be possible through a firmware update but I don't think Garmin is going to do that.
  • Thanks for the reply.

    Thats rubbish Garmin!
  • Garmin actually has a fēnix‑3‑HR on the market that is capable of performing 24×7 HR tracking. I don't know of any wrist-worn wearable device on the market that has recording HR data from a paired external sensor 24×7 as one of the basic features supported without activating a particular app or mode. I'm undecided as to whether you simply haven't done your research before choosing a product to purchase, or are looking for something that isn't available for purchase today.

You could start an Indoor activity that just records HR (cardio, other,..) then long-press the Down button to return to normal watch mode. I'm not sure, but would guess that the widgets would pick up the HR data. If you have that activity running all day it will use quite a bit of battery, and if you choose to save the activity at the end of the day, syncing it via BLE may take a while. During an activity the HR data will be written in the monitor files, but I am not sure if Connect will use it (as it is from a non-OHR device).

Hi, Got a really good deal on my Fenix 3. I actually bought two one a Sapphire HRM run bundle with strap & a wrist HR (silver bezel) after I sold the Wrist HR for £369. So my sapphire Fenix ended up costing me £127.

Im not really after 24/7 HR monitoring. But rather when I choose to wear the Chest strap I would like it to display my HR when not doing an activity. Just to get an insight to my resting HR over a short period not just in an activity.

I would of thought a simple app/widget that just displays HR when its displayed and connected to the chest sensor. This I would of thought is an easy and obvious essential way of tracking HR. i.e. even when writing this post?

    Huh? Make up your mind.

Why would a Garmin wearable device attempt to connect to (or accept connections from) a remembered/paired external sensor when in low-power standby mode? To take the device out of standby mode, and get it to do something useful for you (e.g. present you with information of interest), you start an application program of some sort – whether that's a built-in activity profile (or ‘app’), or a ">‑IQ app of some sort">Connect‑IQ app of some sort (which may be a full-blown ‘watch app’ or just a widget). But you demanded,

by wearing the strap and reading HR on the watch and recording data without starting a program.

    That's rubbish.

So track it and record it as an activity of type Other or some such. I have a custom workout created in Garmin Connect online and installed on my FR235 for that purpose exactly, displaying my ‘Lap HR’ next to my instantaneous HR on the same data screen, while recording fifteen 60-second ‘laps’ as I get ready for bed.

    I would of thought a simple app/widget
That would be starting an application program.

Obviously you thought wrong. Actually, your thinking seems rather muddled on the issue of what is an application program.
