Max HR number different to what is in HR graph

I use a vivosmart HR to record running activities.

Using Garmin Connect on the web, when viewing the detail of an activity, under "Stats" it shows Average and Max heart rate. You can also scroll along the heart rate graphs and see the HR at different times during the activity.

My issue is that the Max Heart Rate shown under stats is always considerably lower than the max shown on the graph (by 15-20 bpm).

Any idea why this is?

Thanks

I've noticed this too. I assumed that maybe you needed to maintain the HR for some period of time (like 30-60 seconds) for it to be considered. How long were you hitting your max HR?
  • It would make sense for Garmin to consider a rolling average over a number of seconds to detect HRmax. Isolated spikes do occur and will skew statistics and HR zone calculations.
