Published Calendar Doesn't Update in Google Calendar

Hi,

I published my Garmin Connect calendar with a bunch of planned workouts, and then successfully added it to Google Calendar. However, when I then add / change a workout the changes aren't reflected in Google.

I've left it for a number of hours, tried changing the formatting of the workout names, added deleted workouts, but nothing makes it through to Google.

Any ideas how to fix this? Without being able to sync the Calendar to Google (or to some other service, which can then be synced to Google) it's pretty useless to me as a training aid.

Thanks,

Rob

I don't think the training calendar in Garmin Connect was ever ‘meant’ or designed to sync with a third-party calendar service or app, although you can manually ‘publish’ and push static snapshots of individual events across.

The Garmin ecosystem (including the cloud-based Garmin Connect service, and the Garmin Express application on your computer and/or the Garmin Connect Mobile apps on your mobile devices) and wearable devices are intended to be self-sufficient as training aids – without undue regard for your preferences (for using other calendar services and apps that also hold information about other non-sport events, for example).

Hi, thanks for the response :) That's not how published .ical calendars work though. The idea is that the service that you then read the published calendar from should be able to retrieve the latest version of the calendar 'at will', thereby getting any new updates that have occurred. That certainly does seem to be the way that the Garmin published calendar is configured, and some more digging shows that this is most likely to be a Google issue (more on this below). The use of the word 'sync' here was an error on my part, as it implies some sort of two-way capability which isn't what I need.

Yep, understood - but, as you appreciate, we all have other 'life' things outside of Garmin that also have to be scheduled. I don't want to have to look at the Garmin Connect app each time I have to make a decision on the timing / scheduling of other events. And because that app doesn't contain everything that's going on in my life it's also no good to me when I'm trying to get an overview of how my week is looking. Hence why it's useful to have all that information make its way into some other calendar (be that some other training platform that has more of my data in than Garmin, or my Google calendar which has more of my general life information in it).

The problem here actually turns out not to be the way that the Connect calendar is published, but the fact that Google aren't in a hurry to support refreshing of .ical published calendars. They seem to refresh their contents somewhere between every 24 hours and, well, weeks in some instances.

So, although the issue turns out to (most likely) not be a Garmin one, it does leave me with an issue that I need to find a way to solve somehow.

I'm suffering the same problem. Found this on the Garmin website:

    https://support.garmin.com/faqSearch/en-US/faq/content/UVAoDoRAgl1d75WQc4aGEA

"NOTE: Only the next 30 days will be published each time the link is used.

If you use the provided URL to publish your Garmin Connect calendar to a third party calendar, the 30 days of published workouts will refresh each day. This means that with each day that passes, one additional day from your Garmin Connect calendar will appear on your third party calendar. This is the most convenient option for keeping your third party calendar current with the information on your Garmin Connect calendar."

Pretty inconvenient if you ask me... time for a feature request?
