Connect not displaying correct event time

Hi, for the last 3 days all my morning runs are showing on Garmin connect as an hour earlier than I actually ran. I.e. I run at 5:30 but after the synch Garmin Connect shows I ran at 4:30!
My evening runs are correct tho.
Please advise, I think it is an app problem?
  • Now THAT's weird. If all your runs were off by 1 hour, at least it would be consistent.

A few questions: Which timezone? Which device? Did you set the time manually, by GPS, or by a phone?
If you set the time manually and it assumes the wrong timezone, I suppose there can be strange results.

Something to check: In web Connect, Head & Shoulders icon, settings, display settings make sure the timezone is correct there.

    Hi Phil,
    Yes, it doesn't make sense!
I'm in GMT +2 and it's correct on a Garmin Connect.
I have a Forerunner 630 and I did set the time manually. I just don't understand why I'm starting to have this problem now when I've changed nothing and why the evening runs are correctly recorded.
    Anything else I should try?
    Thanks

I had the same problem when biking

It allowed me to save all the data as "other" and then I was able to modify it to biking as I usually do. But the date of the ride and the time of day were wrong as it made it look like I rode at 5 PM the day before. I was allowed to change the time of day to get that correct but I needed to wait until the next day to correct the date of my ride.
  • It seems to me that setting the time manually rather than by a GPS fix or by the phone would be asking for trouble.

NeilTorch, It seems to me that yours is a timezone issue. Is your timezone correct per my post above?

I have a VAHR and while you can manually set the time, you can't set year or timezone.

And when I set it manually and then had to reset it after it crashed when disconnecting from Express I noticed that I was getting all kinds of strange things. An Activity on one day was posted as showing it happening when I was asleep the previous day, Sunset/Sunrises (on some option clock faces) was way, way off, and when I tried to load some watch faces it defaulted to the default Garmin.

After getting a GPS position all of those problems cleared up.

Thanks, I'll try the GPS rather than manual setting for the run tomorrow and see if that makes a difference..

I have the same problem using vivoactive HR

time is set to manual (the other option is automatic).
until this morning everything was okay.
this morning when i connected the watch to the computer it made a reset, then deleted the already made "steps", changed the time of "sleep" to weird times and activity made was counted as if was made 10 ours before (activity was done on 19:00 and was written in Garmin connect as if it was done at 10 AM.
the hour on the watch is correct. I am at GMT + 2 but there is no where to set it in the watch settings.

how can i fix it? it is very annoying.

    please advise

  • zoeblue8,

It depends on your device but automatic can mean getting the time from a GPS fix or updating from your phone. If it's based on gps, set your watch to automatic and start a gps-based activity.

Manually setting the time in the VAHR is not accurate. Because while time display might be right, there is no way to set the date or time zone. You need to leave it in Auto and then go to an activity that uses GPS (run, walk, cycle outside). You don't need to start it, but after about 5 seconds a Red GPS will show at the top. Wait for it to turn green and that indicate that it has received the Sat and updated it's location and the time.

I have had this Reset a couple of times. Try putting the clip on the VAHR and THEN plugging it into the computer. Since I have been doing that I have not had a reset. But it happens so infrequently that I am not a guarantee.

Normally when you connect you will immediately see the battery % message. If you don't see that the then immediately unplug it. What for the watch to reset. Then use the GPS to update the time. Then connect it back to the computer. You will probably lose any temporary data such as steps and Intensity Minutes. But any stored data such as recent activity will be right. For the intensity minutes it also loses the past history on the watch, but will be right on Connect. Not sure of the last if you reset the time via GPS before downloading.

And Normally when you unplug it after a few seconds it will Display update. If it does not then wait for the watch restart an then use the GPS to set the time.

As far as I can tell the Manual setting if only useful if you are going to use it as a standalone watch and never download the data.
