garmin connect and a scosche rhythm +

My main goal in shopping around for a wearable was to consolidate everything into one app to log all of my exercise.

I'm considering purchasing the Garmin Vivoactive HR for general all day fitness tracking walking, light jogs, etc. Before I do though I want to be sure the Garmin app will allow me to use a Scosche rhythm + for my high intensity workout tracking and that the Garmin Connect app is capable of keeping that information natively.

I'm currently using a fitbit charge 2, aside from how inaccurate the thing is above 120 BPM, the level of restrictive crap fitbit put into that app is making me want to climb the walls.

On a side note is Garmin ever going to add meal tracking to their app so it can be a one stop shop for everything or are they always going to use Myfitnesspal for meal tracking?

The Garmin Connect Mobile apps do not use any of the hardware (e.g. accelerometer, GPS receiver) in your mobile device or any wirelessly connected sensor/peripheral to track your activity.

You can ">‑HR">pair an external heart rate sensor that transmits data via ANT+ with a vívoactive‑HR, and use it instead of the built-in optical heart rate sensor while the watch records your activity, but that has nothing to do with “the Garmin app”.

and that the Garmin Connect app is capable of keeping that information natively.
If you mean keeping a copy of (all?!) your completed activities so that you can review them in an Garmin Connect Mobile app while the mobile device on which the app is running is not connected to the Internet (and therefore not connected to the cloud-based Garmin Connect service), then no, it won't do that.
  • It seems to me using a Scosche with a VAHR doesn't make sense as all wrist-based HRMs suffer from the same limitations.
Using a chest strap would make much more sense.

That being said, if you want to use a Scosche to measure HR for your activities, it will work. You just have pair the VAHR with the Scosche and start the activity on the VAHR.
