VivoactiveHR - sync says complete but data not appearing on Garmin Connect

I work out and walk daily but despite connecting my Vivoactive HR to sync my data to my iPhone the data is not visible. The sync bar shows and it turns green to say sync complete.

The watch has the data on it, which for example includes indoor rowing I did today but the last data showing on GarminConnect is 23rd November. I have spoken to the helpdesk and have been asked if I have ever used Garmin Express to sync data. I did download Garmin Express but never used it. I was told to delete the application and also to uninstall the Vivoactive HR from Garmin Connect on my iphone and MacBook. I then set about reinstalling the device on the Connect app on my iPhone and MacBook but this didn't resolve the problem.

The helpdesk then suggested that I update the software for the Vivoactive by installing Garmin Express and connecting the Vivoactive with the USB cable. I've done that, I've restarted the Vivoactive and STILL its not fixed the problem.

I'm totally lost and frankly very disappointed now!
