Goals - "Any Activity Type" Missing

I set up goals for the week every Sunday. One of them is the goal for how many hours I want to exercise during the week. For that goal, I use "Any Activity Type". This week it appears to be missing as a choice. There's "Uncategorized" but I'm thinking that won't work for my purposes. Am I just not seeing it or is "Any Activity Type" really gone for good?

    Exactly!
Found the same bug:mad:: a week ago there was "any activities", in fact I have a correct past goal; for these week I try to copy the same goal but it isn't possibile....
  • I suspect it may have had something to do with the issue where people's goals pages were empty unless they refreshed the page. They probably fixed that and broke this.

I wrote support about it. I suggest you do the same. The more people to provide feedback the higher a priority it becomes.

I too am disconcerted that the "Any Activity" option is missing. I thought that just using "uncategorized" would do the trick. But after I used it to manually create 52 weekly goals for 2017 (because the idiotic thing doesn't do recurring goals) I found that using "uncategorized" doesn't work.

This is really frustrating. Honestly. They charge $599 for the thing, but don't bother to do decent, basic programming.

I don't believe you or anyone else is discussing a problem with the device's firmware here.
  • ASmugDill,

    You misunderstood.

This is the Connect forum and we're discussing a feature that Garmin seems to have either removed from web Connect in error or on purpose. For the most part, For someone like me who has a log of my activities since 1973, setting a goal for the number of hours I want to set aside to exercise in a week was basic and invaluable.

I believe SeeleyCat's comment is relevant because the $599 device came with a Connect feature that has been changed at a very basic level. Connect has been very stable for months but you must admit, Garmin has sometimes broken features inadvertently - witness the recent footpod/VA issue. There was no mention of firmware.

SeeleyCat, I suggest you also contact support about it. It hasn't happened that often but in the past, Garmin has reversed design decisions if there was enough of an outcry from its users. I also posted it as an "idea" on their suggestion web site.

    Pure Frustration!!!!

I sent an email to Garmin this morning. I love how they continue to take away functionality instead of adding to it. Additionally, i asked about getting customized dates when setting goals as well. I'm sorry but hard time frames don't always fit the types of goals that I'm working towards.

    Any Activity Type Setting

I tried the uncategorised box when setting a weekly time goal covering multiple activity types. It means that any categorised activities are not included in goal. The any activity box needs to be restored. I have sent email.

I received a reply back from Support:

I would be happy to assist you. Are you trying to create a new goal? We have Custom, which allows you to set your own goal. Within Custom, I see that there is an Uncategorized option, under the Activity Type. Is this what you are looking for?

    Thank you for choosing Garmin.

    Well, this was not helpful.
  • This is what I got from them when I first raised the issue. If they purposely made the change, they obviously didn't understand its implications and the loss of basic functionality.

Thank you again for contacting Garmin International. I am sorry for the inconvenience with the goal options in our Garmin Connect. We have made some changes in the type selections. Unfortunately the type "any activity type" has been replaced with uncategorized or other.
We welcome customer feedback on our website, if you would like to submit your suggestion that we add "any activity type" back, please submit the suggestion on the following link.
