Share a 'joint activity' to another user?

Morning All

Just bought myself a Garmin Oregon and started using Garmin Connect, although my wife has been using it for many years with a GPS watch for running. Anyway, my question is this:

Can we 'share' a joint activity so it shows up on two profiles? I know, the terminology is difficult here!

I don't want the fact I just did a hike to pop up on her Garmin Connect as I am a connection.........she came out with me and also did the hike! I would like to know if there is an easy way that I can 'add' her profile into the activity, so all the stats pop up on her Garmin Connect? I have seen an export function that saves different files types but is this the only way for us to have the data on both profiles, Export from mine and import to hers? Having to manually add also doesn't really make sense with todays technology!!

I hope this isn't too complicated!!

Thankyou in advance

Andy C
  • I don't think there is any other way apart from logging in my account, downloading the tcz file, logging off, logging into my wife's and importing...........

Never mind! Bit of a pain to do :-(
  • Yes incrivel... a social platform that is no social!

    Hard to understand...

Strava is doing it for years.

  • That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Surely it can’t be that hard to add an icon to the UI ?

  • Adding an icon is very easy, but that will not add all the functionality that is needed to make sharing data between profiles possible.

Everything is built on that you log your data with a Garmin device. Adding someone elses data as your activity in your account is not correct in any way. Why not just log it with your own device?

If you really want some other users data then just export the fit file and then import it into your account.

Since November 2022 you can share the read-only access to your account with your connections. Hence, if you share your account with the one of your wife, she can export your activities, and import them without logging off and logging on.

And another, perhaps even simpler solution, that was always available, is using two different browsers on your computer (or phone). That's how I do it too - my own GC account is permanently opened in Chrome, and I use Edge to access the account of my wife. In this way I can quickly export activities from my account and import them in hers, without having to sign out, and sign in again.

  • But that's incrivel that a social application does not allow sharing activities with others, even in its own application.
Since so many years now ... would be honest from Garmin to explain why ...

  • If you are connected you will see all activities from that connection in the News feed. It is automatically shared without you doing anything.

  • But that's incrivel that a social application does not allow sharing activities with others

First of all, Garmin Connect is not really a social application. It is primarily an interface to the data of your fitness watch.

Besides that, they do allow sharing activities in many ways - you can make the activities viewable to your Connections, to Groups, or even to the public. You can also use the Authorized User feature as described in my previous post. You can share photos with stats too. And finally you can export the original FIT file and share it with whoever you want.

  • Yes, i know that. But there's a difference between showing no feed or in other way and sharing se values em particular with someone to complete or fix friends records.

Common sample: Happened a mess with my team activity recording. I can't fix it asking for a team mate to share his activity with me. It impacts all my training numbers to  prepare my coming race.

  • That's what the export and import of activities is for.
