Gear i.e. shoes can onlty be for "all Running", why no sub-options?

The "one gear to rule them all" -philosophy of Garmin connect is old fashioned and should change.
Why can I not have My Pegasus 32 as standard for trail-running and my Lunarglide 7 as standard for running and My Newtons for treadmill
...no, Garmin says; You must choose 1 shoe that is for all running...and then post work-out change.

Next time you make a major update...please fix this.

(Yeah, I know... 1st world problems :D )
  • The built-in Run activity profile (or ‘apps’) on Garmin devices will only create FIT files that present as generic Running activity records, so it would make very little sense to allow for more granular default gear rules that distinguishes track running from trail running.

Yes, I know Connect‑IQ apps that can create more specialised FIT files exist, and can be used on a subset of Garmin devices, but I don't think there is any need to assume a sufficient number of users (or customers) will be using such apps just to avoid having to make changes to activity records in Garmin Connect after the fact.

No, even though I'm an IT and maths geek by trade and training, I personally don't support moving all the user options, interactions and operations to wearable devices, or allowing for more complex set-ups and profiles on such when fine-grained control is more suited to operations performed on a computer workstation or tablet. I believe in providing capability to achieve a large variety of end-outcomes, without sparing every user the need to make compromises and perform operations that he/she would prefer to be fully automated but customised to his/her tastes all the same.
