Can't add new shoes to manual activity

I added a new pair of shoes to my gear and set this pair of shoes to be the default running shoes. Then I went to an activity that was recorded with an FR230 and changed the shoes on that activity from an older pair to this newer pair.

After that, I added a manual activity for a run. I didn't enter the shoes because there is no field for it on the add manual activity form. Fortunately, when I view the resulting activity detail page there is a place for gear which says, "Gear: Add", where 'Add' is a hyperlink. When I click on this link I get a list of gear. It has two pairs of older shoes but not the new shoes that I just added. It is interesting that these new shoes are the default running shoe and yet even so they do not show up in the list. Of all the shoes to show it seems like these would be the most obvious ones to show since the activity is a run.

I tried logging out and back in but I still don't see the default running shoes in the list.

So as far as I can tell there is no way for me to add shoes to this activity. I would appreciate any constructive help.
  • No problems doing that over here

As an experiment, I added a manual activity of type Running via the Calendar in Garmin Connect a few minutes ago, and it picked up my default gear (running shoes) assignment just fine.

I then deleted that activity so I don't screw up my Running totals, and added a manual activity of type Walking (which I've made publicly accessible to prove the point) instead, and it picked up my default gear assignment for Walking.

After that, I added a manual activity for a run. …‹snip›… When I click on this link I get a list of gear. It has two pairs of older shoes but not the new shoes that I just added. It is interesting that these new shoes are the default running shoe and yet even so they do not show up in the list.
My guess is that the date of the manual activity is earlier than the First Use date you specified for the new shoes.
