Got to Reports/Progress Summary and select "All days" from the "Report on' dropdown. Select the activity you want to analyse from the activity type dropdown.

Click on the gear icon next to the word "customize" to select the fields that appear in the Summary

I'll try again with my new improved name:

I don't see Reports/Progress Summary. The Reports tab shows only graphs, and those graphs are organized by month with no Grand Total for All Days to be found.

I'm not sure why this info has been obscured and so well hidden, but it's one of the many reasons I've come to hate my Garmin with a passion. I've wasted an entire morning trying to find an answer. It would've been faster to add up each ride on an old calculator. That's the beauty of Garmin. The simple things are never simple.

Hardly.

Or perhaps you simply overestimated your own ability, one way or another.

Using the right browser, clicking on the right place, and selecting options from drop-down menus seems pretty simple to me.
• If you are looking for your lifetime miles, just go to the Garmin Connect website, click on the "person" in the upper left, and "View Profile". About 1/2 way down is "Lifetime Totals"

Distance, activities, time, calories, etc

Yes, my own abilities are in serious doubt. Despite my being a software developer who works on enterprise websites, my screen does not looks like your screenshot, and I still cannot find "Progress Summary." I was not given the secret code. Is this only available for paying/premium members? Or do I have to be a master like you? Thanks for trying to help, and for insulting me in the process, but to this point, the insults were more effective than the assistance. I'll apply my workaround and export everything to csv and let Excel add it up for me, or export to mapmyride, which is a much better interface.

That other forum post did actually help! Of course it's a software bug that prevents the Progress Summary link from showing up on the report page in Firefox. So much aggravation for something so trivial. That's why I hate my Garmin. The hardware is wonderful. The software makes the hardware almost useless. Thanks for knowing enough to direct to the forum that held the answer.

Browser issue

It's a browser issue: I just had that problem while on Firefox and I tried in a different broswer (internet explorer) and it worked. Not the first time I see a bug of garminconnect in Firefox actually so normally I access it from IE. Guessing that it should be okay in Chrome too given it's now the most used browser.
Try that before wasting too much download into excel etc
Good luck

Broken in Chrome too on Mac OS X. Works in Safari though.

I have another issue though and perhaps this is just poor design, I'd like to know if it works for anyone else. When selecting Total Distance from any of the reports I get a nice bar graph that shows activities by day but it does not calculate total distance anywhere, seems to miss the point of the graph.

It was never the point of a bar chart to present the aggregate of the values represented by each of the bars corresponding to discrete entities (which could be as different as apples and oranges), categories or other forms of data stratification shown on the primary axis. Aggregation (or summarisation) is performed only within the individual categories,

and the bars visually depict the distribution of the grand total N across the partitioned sample space, but for neither of those purposes would N as a single numeric value be a core (or mandatory) information element of the bar chart itself, even though for information dashboards it may be convenient and useful to present the two logically separate but related elements (the grand total and the distribution chart) side by side, such as by inserting the value of N in the caption of the chart as a diagram, or as an annotation on the chart itself.

It doesn’t work on the iPad either.
