Personal Best Times vs Run Times

I'm having issues with my Forerunner235 recording personal best records accurately. Today, I ran a 6.30 mile run in 47:08, and it recorded my PR 10k time as 47:08. The only problem is that a 10k is 6.213 miles, not 6.3 miles. Doing the math, my PR time should be somewhere near 46:29 based on my splits. Is there a setting that I am missing? Or does Garmin not auto record times at specific distances? Lap split times attached -->
  • For the longer distances, I have found that garmin is not smart enough to take the fastest section of the run to use as the personal best. The simplest method to manually fix this is just to edit it in your Personal Records page and then upload it back to the watch.

The PB system appears to take any run which is in a window just above the distance. For example a run of 4.99km will not record as a 5K PB. Similarly, a run of 5.20km will record the PB but with the total 5.20km time used as the PB. You could manually enter the 5km split as your PB but then you have the problem of distance certification. I personally only record these longer PBs on certified race courses.

The situation is different for the 1km and 1 mile PBs. I have found that these do record as the fastest sections within longer runs. I achieved my 1 mile and 1km PBs in the same 1 mile race. However, I treat these with a pinch of salt because although the mile was certified, the 1km split was not. I'll probably replace this 1km PB with a certified PB when I run a track race or time trial.
