Vivoactive status, "Waiting to Connect"

My iphone 6 says it is connected to the vivoactive but my watch says, "waiting to connect". Steps and activities are not connecting. Most of my social media notifications are coming through to my vivoactive but the activities are not going to garmin express. Grrrr! SYNC says it is not connected.
