My Garmin 910XT is frozen in "transferring data" mode. Won't turn off, won't shift

My Garmin 910XT is frozen in "transferring data" mode. Won't turn off, won't shift modes.

There's a 35 minute wait at the call-in help line. And the email-a-concern line isn't functioning.

Have you tried a soft reset, then a hard reset/factory reset?

Soft reset: Press and hold MODE and LAP/RESET for 10 seconds

This should turn off your device. Turn it back on and see if it works - if not:

Hard reset: (this will delete all fitness data on the watch)
Power Forerunner off (soft reset if necessary)
Press and hold Mode and Enter buttons
Press and release Power button (still holding Mode and Enter)
Release Mode and Enter once Power is released

  • You can try also this. Not sure whether it helps, but trying it won't harm anything:

    1. Watch not connected to the charger.
    2. Press the following button combination for 15sec: Power (light), Down (ABC) and GPS (start/stop).
    3. Plug into the charger and hope it comes to live again.

If you can access the watch folders through the USB cable, check also the activities folder, if it is not overfilled with files. The reason of the frozen state could be perhaps due to full storage. You can delete older activites to free up some space.

    Unfortunately, this doesn't work...

  • So let it discharge completely until it switches off alone, then wait a bit, and try the operation described above again. If it does not help, you'll probably need to have it exchanged or repaired.

My Garmin, which has worked reliably for years. None of these ideas below has worked. I wonder if it's a coincidence that others have had the same problem recently.

  • For the 910XT you might need to try a master reset. It's a little tricky and requires some dexterity. Good instructional video here:

Thank you so much, I got it going! For a few happy moments I thought I could justify getting an Apple watch or new Garmin ... but for better or worse the 910XT seems to be soldiering on!

It worked ! (Discharging - after recharged, it worked normally) But didn’t transfer the last activity (this happened before).
