Edge 1000 cycle routes

With the unit set to Road Cycling and Avoidance all set on it keeps routing to cycle routes and seems to insist I need to use these. The whole point of Road cycling is it is on roads not cycle tracks (its in the name) and I do actually want to keep on roads. Do they all do this or do I have a problem with mine (new unit).
