My garmin is recording ascent of 5541.3 feet but imports an Elev Gain of 3,672 ft why the discrepancy?

Do you by any chance have elevation correction turned on in Garmin Connect?

What "garmin"? There are many models. Some of them have barometric altimeters. Some of them do not. If yours is one that doesn't, then 3672 is much closer to the truth than 5541.
