Can anyone tell me what the Garmin Training Plan Levels (I-II-III) indicate please?..
Example, what is considered Level I requirements etc..
Many thanks

  • Agreed there is no description

I think it really comes down to your current level of training and how many workouts you can commit to a week

If you look at the plans then try and evaluate how much weekly time they require

If say it is 8 Hours per week spread over 6 workouts and you currently do 6.5 hours a week over 4-5 workouts then it is probably feasible for you to start that program

If you are currently training 3 workouts and 2.5 hours then you need to think about either picking a lower level plan or gradually stepping up your time and mileage to a level near that for the start of the plan

The old rule of thumb is to not increase training load by more than 10% per week so as to avoid injury

Even within that I would suggest that you don't do that for more than a month - i.e. after 4 weeks increase then back off for a week - don't increase and train easy then carry on with the increase until you are at the time/frequency that you want to be at

    Hope that helps a bit
  • Thanks JS.. yes.. I am pretty familiar with increasing work loads.. I was just thinking of using one of the plans for a change and didn't want to go into an "elite" plan and injure myself.... (I've done x15 marathon distance races over the last 6-7yrs), I'm also what some might call a mature runner at 60yo.. but still manage an average finish of 3:45 for a marathon. I've missed my last three marathons in a row due to injury and flu.. unfortunate timings for the best part.
But like you say I will look at the loading for each week an settle on a plan that is closest to my present regime.
    Thanks again
