Calorie estimate very high on Vivosmart HR+

Hi, I've been using the Garmin Vivosmart HR plus for a few days now. The reason I got the device was to more accurately count calories. Some weeks I would lose too much weight and I just found it hard to pin point it. So far I'm about ready to send the thing back because I estimated more accurately without it. Let me first give some background info. I am 5'10 male, 190 pounds and roughly about 20% bodyfat. 26 years old. In the settings for Garmin it has activity class 5, not sure what that means. When I set it up I think I put that I'm lightly active. I also have it synced with my fitness pal with a goal of losing 1 pound per week. I have been operating under the assumption that the calorie goal I get from garmin connect accounts for the -500 for my goal of 1 pound per week. In fact I think I got that from the little help section in my garmin connect app. This is my data from yesterday: i had 2188 active calories which resulted in a adjusted goal of 4318. I took 12,881 steps. I did a weight workout for about an hour which it counted as 550 calories. Climbed 7 floors. Other than that I did some leisurely bike riding that was not intended to be exercise, it was to get from one point to another. All in all a reasonably active day, but 4300 calories to lose a pound? I don't think so. I can believe that I burned 550 during my weight workout but where did the other 1600 or so calories come from? After dinner I had consumed 3500 calories and was more than content. Is there something wrong with the settings?

    Vivosmart HR+ over-stating calories

Hi. I have a very similar problem - 44yr old male, 138 pounds - very active - been using vivoactive for last year no issues but wanted all day HR - yesterday mine told me I'd burned 2802 calories total of which 1023 were active - I did an 11.9k run which was active & that estimated 631 calories which doesn't look daft. If i delve further into connect sub-menu (click MORE, HEALTH STATS,CALORIES) & look at the summary it tells me I did 1654 active calories? Clearly thats 1023 active plus the 631 from my run........my total steps yesterday including my run were 18,255. What am I missing here? Does it count steps & give a calories count then add the run steps on top (double count?). It's told me I've done 54 active calories today already yet all I've done is get up, let dog out, have a coffee & write this!! I've done 328 steps!???
